Excel for Charity Writing competitions raise money for charities whilst recognising and prizing outstanding writing.

LUPUS UK POETRY COMPETITION 2012

Closing Date: 30 November 2012

Details: This competition is open to all professional and amateur poets from any part of the world in aid of LUPUS UK – a national charity helping people with the currently incurable immune system disease Lupus.  For previously unpublished poems in English Language, on any subject, in any style up to 50 lines long.

Prizes: £100 (First), £50 (Second), £30 (Third) and £10 x 2 (High Commendation) plus publication in the Excel for Charity News Blog.

Entry Fees: £3 per poem, or £12 for 5, £16 for 7. (A third of net entry fees goes to Lupus UK. In 2011, we raised £180.65 for the charity. With your generous entries, we could do more this year)

Sentinel Annual Short Story Competition 2012

CLOSING DATE: 30 NOVEMBER 2012
Details:
For previously unpublished short stories in English Language, in any style, on any subject. Maximum Length: 2000 words.
Stories entered must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere and may not be simultaneously entered into another competition.
Prizes:
£500 (1st), £250 (2nd), £125 (3rd) and £25 x 5 (High Commendation). All winning and commended poems receive first publication in Sentinel Champions magazine. Copyright to stories remains with the authors.
Entry fee:
£5 per story for the first 2 stories, then £3.50 per story thereafter.

This competition in aid of the London-based charity; The Psychiatry Research Trust is administered by Eastern Light EPM International, organisers of the Excel for Charity International Writing Competition series that raises funds for charities whilst rewarding creative excellence.

Thynks ‘New Beginnings’ Poetry Pamphlets Competition

Canterbury Festival Poet of the Year Competition 2012

Now an established highlight of the literary year, the Canterbury Festival Poet of the Year Competition is open for entries for 2012.

In keeping with Festival’s status as an International Arts Festival, submissions are invited from poets from Canterbury, as well as national and international entries. The deadline for submissions is Thursday 31 May 2012.

A longlist of entries will be selected for inclusion in the 2012 Anthology. Shortlisted poets will be asked to read their poems at the Awards Evening on Thursday 4 October, an event which is sure to whet the appetite for this year’s Festival which runs from 13 – 27 October.

Canterbury Festival is Kent’s International Arts Festival, the largest festival of arts and culture in the region, and one of the most important cultural events in the South East. The Festival attracts an audience of over 70,000 people of all ages to 200 events. Be a part of this amazing Festival!

The New Zealand Poetry Society’s 2012 International Poetry Competition

Closing Date: 31st May 2012

The New Zealand Poetry Society’s annual International Poetry Competition, Verse and Haiku, is under way, with Open and Junior Sections. The Junior Open and Junior Haiku sections are open to students who are 17 years of age or younger on 31st May 2012. Please visit our website at www.poetrysociety.org.nz for full competition details and to download the entry forms. Last year’s results, including winning poems and judges’ reports, are also on the website.

Prizes:

Open: 1st – $500; 2nd – $250; 3rd – $100

Open Junior: 1st – $200

Primary/Intermediate: 1st runner-up – $100; 2nd runner-up – $50

Secondary: 1st runner-up – $100; 2nd runner-up – $50

Haiku: Top five haiku – $100 each, plus First Prize Winner receives the Jeanette Stace Memorial Prize of $150.

Haiku Junior: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Primary/Intermediate – $50 each

1st 2nd, 3rd, Secondary – $50 each

In addition, the writer of the haiku considered the best of the two sections receives the Jeanette Stace Memorial Prize of $100.

All prizes are in New Zealand Dollars. No entrant will win more than one cash prize, though winners may also be included in a commended list.

All winning and commended poems, along with other selected entries, will appear in the New Zealand Poetry Society’s annual anthology in November 2012, to be edited by Owen Bullock (Katikati). It is not necessary to buy a copy of the anthology in order to have a poem included. All selections are made blind (i.e. without identifying information).
