AFRICAN PRISONS PROJECT POETRY AND SHORT STORY COMPETITIONS 2013

Closing Date: 20th March 2013
Entries are now being accepted for the maiden African Prisons Project Poetry and Short Story Competitions. These are Excel for Charity competitions administered by Eastern Light EPM International in support of African Prisons Project, a national charity working to bring justice, dignity and hope to men, women and children in prisons across Africa. For original, previously unpublished poems up to 50 lines long and short stories up to 1500 words long, on any subject and in any style. Poets and writers of all nationalities living anywhere in the world are eligible to enter. Judges: Bob Beagrie (Poems), Alison Lock (Short Stories).
PRIZES IN EACH CATEGORY: £100 (first), £50 (second), £30 (third) and 2 x £10 (high commendation) plus first publication in the Excel for Charity News Blog.
ENTRY FEES (POEMS): £3 per poem, £12 for 5, £16 for 7 or £22 for 10.
ENTRY FEES (STORIES): £5 for 1 story, £8 for 2, £10 for 3 or £12 for 4. (A third of net entry fees will be donated to African Prisons Project).

For original, previously unpublished short stories in English Language on any subject, in any style, up to 1500 lines long (excluding title). Stories entered should also not be entered into another competition running at the same time. Writers of all nationalities living in any part of the world are eligible to enter.

SHORT STORY CONTEST: BETHLEHEM WRITERS ROUNDTABLE SHORT STORY AWARD

As of October 15, we are now accepting submissions of short fiction or memoir
(2000 words or fewer) on the theme of “WINTER’S TALE” or “SPRING STORY” for the Bethlehem Writers Roundtable Short Story Award.
In addition to a $200 prize, the first place winner’s story will be considered for print publication in the Bethlehem Writers Group, LLC’s upcoming anthology. Our previous publication, A Christmas Sampler: Sweet, Funny, and Strange Holiday Tales (2009), won two Next Generation Indie Book Awards: Best Anthology and Best Short Fiction.
Second place will receive $100 + publication in the BWG Writers Roundtable on-line literary magazine
Third place will receive $50 + publication in the BWG Writers Roundtable on-line literary magazine
Honorable Mentions may also be published in the BWG Writers Roundtable on-line literary magazine in a month selected by the editors.

Almond Press Short Story Contest 2012

Closing Date: 30 November
Competition Details: Newly established Scottish publisher is currently looking for talented writers. First prize is £100. All shortlisted entries will be collected and published in a collection. Space permitting, authors may also be featured in a short Q&A next to their story.
Contest is not limited to UK. International entries are welcome.
The theme for the story is “Fall” (in all meanings of the word). We’re not looking for a particular kind of fiction either, it could be a romance, a thriller, a comedy or anything!
All entries must be between 3000 and 5000 words in length.

THE FICTION DESK FLASH FICTION PRIZE

The Fiction Desk Flash Fiction Prize is open now for entries, with a deadline of 31 January 2013.

Stories must be between 250 & 1,250 words in length, with an entry fee of £3 for one story, or £7.50 for three. Shelf Unbound Writing Competition for Best Self-Published Book

Shelf Unbound book review magazine announces the Shelf Unbound Writing Competition for Best Self-Published Book. Any self-published book in any genre is eligible for entry. Entry fee is $10 per book. The winning entry will be selected by the editors of Shelf Unbound magazine.

To submit an entry, email a PDF of your entire book, including the cover, to Margaret@shelfmediagroup.com, subject line Contest Entry, and send a check for $10 made out to Shelf Media Group to Margaret Brown, Shelf Media Group, 3322 Greenview Drive, Garland, TX 75044. All entries received (and entry fee paid) will be considered.

The top five books, as determined by the editors of Shelf Unbound, will receive editorial coverage in the December/January 2013 issue of Shelf Unbound. The author of the book named as the Best Self-Published book will receive editorial coverage as well as a year’s worth of full-page ads in Shelf Unbound (rate card value $6,000).
